Growth Characteristics Ferocactus rectispinus is a cactus native to the desert regions of Mexico, characterized by strong, upright spines and a rounded body. It thrives in sunny, dry environments and prefers well-drained soil. Its growth rate is relatively slow, and it can reach a maximum height of approximately 1 meter. Propagation Methods Propagation is primarily done by seeds, with spring and summer being the most suitable periods. Warm temperatures (approximately 21–27°C) are required for seed germination. Soaking the seeds in water beforehand can increase the germination rate. After germination, the plant must be grown in a location with sufficient light and ventilation. Cultivation Methods - Soil: Use well-draining soil specifically designed for cacti. - Watering: During the growing season, water only after the soil has dried sufficiently; limit watering during the winter dormancy period. - Sunlight: It must be placed in a location that receives ample direct sunlight. 4. Temperature: While it tolerates high temperatures well in the summer, a minimum temperature of 5–10°C must be maintained during the winter. Uses in the GardenCactus Rectispinus is highly popular as an ornamental plant due to its unique form and intense spines. It is particularly well-suited as a landscaping element in gardens with dry climates. It can also be grown indoors in pots. Important Pests and Control Methods - Diseases: Root rot caused by overwatering is the most common problem; attention must be paid to drainage to prevent this. - Pests: Pests such as scale insects may occur; to prevent this, inspect the plant periodically and use insecticides if necessary. - Control Methods: Pests and diseases can be prevented by providing regular ventilation and sunlight, avoiding overwatering, and using appropriate insecticides. Cactus Rectispinus is a plant whose beautiful form can be enjoyed with relatively easy care, provided the right environment is provided.
